Vision

OEDSI is a pioneer, linking local and global communities together through sustainable education. Engaged dialogue and critical thinking skills cannot be taught in text books. If members of the ecological community are interested in providing sustainable alternatives, they must consider reaching out to our youth through education. Sustainability is a social concept that can only be realized through interaction with those who are living and practicing sustainable methods today.

Reading a book is valuable, but in a growing age of video games and real T.V. shows, making a live connection through the use of technology may be more inspirational to the young minds of today. OEDSI is dedicated to making environmental issues become a core focus and component of public schools and mandated testing systems.

Clearly the work of OEDSI cannot address all the issues needed in educational reform. It is our vision to look at what is available and provide a bridge for students and experts to exchange ideas, information, thoughts and opportunities. Children can learn how to be responsible in local, regional, national, and international communities today.

Empowering our youth to find intrinsic value in participating in global issues (disease control, sanitation, starvation, social equality, resource scarcities and sustainable education) can encourage them to take small steps in their own lives today, preparing them locally while simultaneously connecting them globally.

Our future vision is to see hands-on sustainability projects become a core component of public education systems nationally and internationally. Open dialogue between experts and students should be a routine part of education. OEDSI envisions providing a platform for educators, students, parents, communities and experts to recognize the benefit of what we consider a sustainable approach towards education.
